AIRMIC 2019: Change, constant and quickening in pace.

21 June 2019

Nathan Hodder shares his thoughts from this year's AIRMIC conference.

Change, constant and quickening in pace. Whilst recent captive formations globally have, at best, been flat year on year, whatever way you measure the stats, expect change was the overriding message at AIRMIC 2019.

The calling of a hardening market has been said for many years, but signs indicate this is a “for real” event. The champions of captives and linked service providers are upbeat about a marked uptick in interest in captives. The need for a captive solution being part of the answer is starting to take hold in the wider risk management industry.

Fascinating insight provided by possibly the best session of the AIRMIC programme, Andrew Neil highlighted the unprecedented geopolitical risks and cyber threats, emphasising that what we see now in global political circumstance should be considered the new normal!

One thing for sure, after 3 days in Harrogate, batten down the hatches (and yes it did rain a fair bit while we were there) and hold on tight, for the pace of change in risk management is not going to slow any time soon. Fascinating times ahead.
