Audit Director
ROLE OVERVIEW
Purpose
Working closely with the existing Audit Directors and reporting to the Head of Audit, the newly appointed Audit Director will be expected to contribute to the operational and strategic business objectives of BDO Limited and to develop and enhance the range of audit and assurance services provided to local and international clients as well as actively seeking to develop the overall audit and assurance client base of BDO Limited.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Strategy & Practice Management
- In conjunction with the existing audit directors, contributes and devises operational plans and strategies to develop the range of audit and assurance services offered to clients and implement these according to agreed schedules
- Monitors developments within the market and builds new business through the proactive marketing of BDO to existing, new and potential clients and by networking with other BDO offices
- Conducts proactive relation and portfolio management and, in order to realise this, maintains contacts at the highest level. Remains active within relevant networks wherever possible seizing business opportunities as they present themselves and introducing new ideas for products and services
- Demonstrates ability to multitask and work on several engagements simultaneously whilst undertaking numerous other responsibilities
- Delegates work as appropriate whilst maintaining a focus on the “big picture”
- Promotes and maintains a good public profile for the firm in all dealings with external contacts in order to develop relationships that ensure the firm can achieve its objectives
- Ensures compliance with the BDO’s policies and procedures
Leadership and People Skills
- Demonstrates effective people management skills by maintaining a healthy work culture, encourages staff engagement, drives service delivery whilst maintaining contentment amongst employees, acts as a knowledgeable contact, solving any problems amongst employees, conducts performance reviews and generally acts in an inspiring and motivational manner to all staff
- Creates an environment that fosters success and best practice at every level and demonstrate professional leadership by example
- Works together with other Audit Directors and Managers demonstrating professionalism at all times
- Mentors, develops and counsels staff and where problems arise deals with them in a confidential manner to a satisfactory outcome in conjunction with the firm's operational policies
- External and internal Communication skills are clear, concise, logical and confident so as not to cause confusion or upset
- Exercises objectivity, sound business acumen and judgement and incisive decision making in technical and business decisions that do not adversely impact client relations
- Maintains visibility through professional activities and articles. Specifically, should become involved in professional committees and became an active and consistent participant
Technical Ability & Risk Management
- Demonstrates technical proficiency and/or specialisation and continues to develop technical skill in area of expertise to give a competitive edge
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality audit and assurance services by working closely with new and existing clients on a proactive basis
- Ensures that work is done according to BDO current procedures and directives
- Carries out assignments of a complex and professional nature
- Solves organisational problems in an energetic manner and ensures that any problems that may have an impact on BDO are reported in a timely manner
- Ensures ongoing Continuing Professional Development is in accordance with Institute and BDO’s regulations and expectations
- Provides advice and guidance and generally informs and educates all staff and management on audit and assurance matters, with a view to minimising engagement risk
Client Relationship Management
- Demonstrates an inherent understanding of clients aspirations and needs, communicates sensitively with clients and key stakeholders displaying a high degree of interpersonal skill, troubleshooting wherever required and sustaining excellent client relationships and service delivery
KEY CRITERIA – Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
- ACA qualified or overseas equivalent
- Ideally educated up to degree level
- Ability to demonstrate audit quality in working practices
- Minimum of 6 years post qualification experience
- Relevant and up-to-date audit experience
- Able to demonstrate international audit experience
- Good working knowledge of applicable GAAPs
- Sector experience appropriate to BDO clients
- Experience with listed clients
- Experience auditing international groups
- Working knowledge of financial products, firm services, issues regarding advice and regulation and compliance, including anti-money laundering
- Demonstrate strong technical proficiency
- Strong inter-personal skills, and an ability to form and develop successful client relationships
- Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills but equally must be an effective team player working together in spirit of mutual interest
- Commercial acumen and ability to proactively network
- Risk management awareness and commercial astuteness
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
