Meet Caley

06 May 2021

A green fingered Jetsetter – Caley has been in the Tax Team at BDO for 4 years, and has specialised in tax for more than 25 years. A lover of the outdoors – when she is not away exploring new places - you will find Caley in her garden, either planting or with a refreshing gin and tonic in hand!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your interests.

A: I love to travel the world when I can, I particularly enjoy holidays involving the outdoors and good food and drink. My favourite place in the world, so far, is the Maasai Mara. I love staying in the middle of nowhere and never knowing what nature I might encounter. My next planned trip is to Argentina and Brazil, which will combine visiting a couple of cities, exploring natural environments and wine tasting!

At home, I have a small greenhouse where I enjoy growing vegetables and flowers before then relaxing in the garden with a refreshing gin and tonic.

Q: How would you describe your role?

A: I oversee a large portfolio of tax and accounts clients; personal, corporate and trusts. As well as providing the required compliance, I also advise my clients on matters regarding tax planning.

Q: What do you enjoy about your profession?

A: I enjoy the variety of the work and meeting people from different backgrounds. I also enjoy liaising  with my colleagues, both in the office and all over the world, to enable me to provide all encompassing advice to clients.

Q: Who is a typical client at the moment?

A: I deal with a wide range of clients from people needing assistance with their personal tax returns, to large corporate groups.

I also often work with people who are relocating themselves and their businesses to Guernsey. At present, I am currently seeing a lot of people move to Guernsey from the UK, this is due to several reasons: Covid19, tax and the excellent quality of life in Guernsey. I have recently been working with Locate Guernsey who assist people and businesses relocate to Guernsey.

Q: What do people need to be thinking about now/ at this time of year in terms of tax?

A: Whether there are any forthcoming deadlines for the submission of their tax return and any due dates for tax payments. For those considering moving to Guernsey, the earlier they seek our advice the better as there may be tax planning opportunities.

Q: What would be your top tip to somebody who is looking to get their taxes in order?

A: To ask us for assistance at the earliest opportunity. We can help them to bring their tax affairs up to date, and keep them up to date, as painlessly as possible.
