Over breakfast, Mark Spencer, Accounting and Corporate Reporting Advisory Leader and BDO’s global lead on IFRS 17, will cover the implementation of IFRS 17 and what it means for Non-Executive Directors. This will be an informal discussion and involve details around the classification of insurance contracts through to disclosure requirements within financial statements, whilst demystifying some of the myths around IFRS 17 and the implementation.
Introducing Mark Spencer
Mark leads the Financial Services’ Accounting Advisory team at BDO. He specialises in advising financial institutions on a broad range of accounting change programmes, including IFRS 9, IFRS 17, FRS 102, structuring of transactions and operations, classification and measurement of financial instruments, impairment and hedge accounting.
He has significant experience of providing advisory and assurance services to retail and commercial banks, providers of alternative finance, securitisation vehicles, broker dealers, treasury functions, insurers, asset managers and alternative investment houses in Europe, the Americas and AsiaPac.
In addition, Mark engages with the GPPC, PRA, FRC, ICAEW, UK Finance and the AFB on matters relating to the accounting for and auditing of financial instruments and financial institutions, participating in a number of their working groups and outreach events.
